SION HILL LIVE ACOUSTIC SESSION

RECORDED AT CARDINAL SESSIONS FESTIVAL, MAY 22, 2017

Early 2017, we managed to film Peter Doherty in Cologne, shot the session and went to his show afterwards. This irish guy called Sion Hill was supporting Peter on this tour and it was the first time we heard him play – and fell in love instantly. Only some days later we announced Sion Hill for our fifth Cardinal Sessions Festival in May of 2017.

After playing wonderful gigs in Berlin and Hamburg, we walked around the city of Cologne in search for a good spot to record an acoustic session. We found this beautiful old warehouse, abandoned, and decided to just walk in. There were holes in the ground, it didn’t seem very safe, but the surrounding looked and sounded so good that it was the only choice we had – just recording outside in a park just wouldn’t feel right after seeing this.

Freddie Dickson, an amazing british singer-songwriter who also played our festival, was around and would later take Sion’s guitar to play a song on his own.

Sion Hill performed his song “Breakfast in Amsterdam”, being as charming as ever after years of playing in pubs in Dublin. The german label Clouds Hill noticed Sion’s talent and signed him, releasing his debut LP in summer of 2017.
