Frère Live Acoustic Session on a small cliff

German singer-songwriter and his band perform „Portugal“ on a cold winter day

At last year’s C/O Pop Festival, Cologne’s biggest music festival, we were asked to curate a stage. The first band we wanted to be playing our stage was german singer-songwriter Frère, accompanied by his band. They played a great concert in a church and we decided it would be great to shoot an acoustic session. As it turned out, it took more than six months to finally realize it (schedules can be tough). The sound of the band has often been described as „Post-Folk“, which is quite fitting. You can clearly hear electronic influences, a folky songwriting, a voice that resembles Ben Howard but still is very much his own – an interesting mix of genres that won us in a heartbeat.

The shooting itself was a little dangerous, as a big storm was over Germany last week and the place we were filming at wasn’t safe at all. The cliff was slippery, it was really cold and getting dark soon. Everything worked out in the end. The song, „Portugal“, is perfect for the whole atmosphere, a sincere song, a little melancholic, with a beautiful melody.

Frère’s debut „Void“ is available now, be sure to have a listen.
